Suicide Sqeeze Bunting can be very risky but also effective if executed properly. It is important that you practice the following steps with the entire team multiple times.
- First, keep in mind that this is done with no outs or can be completed if there is one out. There must also be a runner on third base for this bunting to be successful.
- When the third base coach calls for a suicide squeeze bunt, the runner at third must sprint at full speed as the pitcher releases the ball. The runner can not hesitate. It is important to stress this point.
- The batter turns to bunt at the last second. This takes the fielders off gaurd. The batter must also be sure to protect the runner that is coming towared her.
- This is also an important part of the play. The batter must do everything to bunt the ball and put it in play in fair territory.
- Remind the batter that if she pulls the bat back, and does not bunt, most likely the runner at third base will become out at the plate.
- Suicide Squeeze Bunting is very tricky but becomes a good play with advance softball teams.
