A Trip To Austria |

Flat Stanley's JournalFlat Stanley Lambchop also accompanied us to Austria. Flat Stanley is a character in a children's book by Jeff Brown. He arrived at our home in Philadelphia, courtesy of our older daughter Jessica and her friend Heather, a second grade teacher in Bar Harbor, Maine. We composed a journal for Flat Stanley chronicling his travels. I've included some excerpts along with pictures of Stanley.
Rachael is taking us into town by bus. The people of Salzburg often ride buses, walk or ride bikes. The buses are very nice and are almost always on time. In Salzburg, you can take your dog with you on the buses. You also see people riding their bike with their dog running along with them, on a leash of course. We finally reach the center of town. I think that Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella lived here once. There are castles, beautiful churches and mountains. Here is a picture of Salzburg and the Castle. A movie, the “Sound of Music” was filmed here. This is a movie about a family of children during the war. We went to visit the Dom zu Salzburg. This is a cathedral or church. Today they are preparing for a children’s celebration. Two women are carrying a group of children just like me! They are flat too! Here is a picture of me and my new friends. I bet you didn’t know that there were flat children in Austria too!
We went to the shopping district. This is on a street called Getreidegasse. A little hard to pronounce, without some practice! There are many stores. Some of them are also found in the United States (McDonalds) while others are little souvenir shops that sell Austian souvenirs
Now we are going to the Hohensalzburg Fortress. This Castle was built around 1077 – it is almost a thousand years old! The fortress is high up on the hill. You can see it in the postcard from Salzburg.
August 19 This is our last day. We went to the Mozart Museum. Mozart wrote beautiful music and lived in Salzburg. We took a picture of Mozart and me. And here is a picture of me with a knight in armor. We went shopping along the streets of Salzburg. I'm going to miss Salzburg but I think I'm ready to go home and see Marina.
