PSSA Writing Rubric
In 11th grade students take the PSSA (state standardized tests). During that test they are to write a persuasive essay and are graded based on the writing rubric. In order to prepare students for that type of scoring, teachers have begun to use the PSSA writing rubric. The PSSA writing rubric is divided into five categories; Focus, Content/Development, Organization, Style and Conventions. Here are brief explanations about what each category is focusing on.
Focus- paper is clear, focused, and sticks to one topic. Has clear thesis statement.
Content/Development- clear picutre about what writier is taking about, clear details related to topic and properly cited.
Organization- clear introduction, body, and conclusion, clear topic sentences and details, paragraphs about one subtopic each.
Style- appropriate word choice, sentences are clear and varied, stong verbs, flows smoothly
Conventions- proper grammar and punctuation, spelling, indentation, and citation.
