Skills Hierarchy
Step 1: Students should get lined paper and pen.

Step 2: Students should write name and date in upper
right corner of paper. (p/c)
Step 3: Students should write the word “conclusion”
at the upper left hand side of the paper,
and underline it. (p/c)
Step 4: Write the following sentence two lines below
the word conclusion; “In my hypothesis,
I said… (Complete the sentence with what you stated would happen in the lab
from your hypothesis). (p/c)
Step 5: Then write and complete the next sentence;
“After completing the ____________ (Fill in the blank with the name of
the lab) lab, my data and results shows…
(Complete the sentence with what your data tells you happened in the
lab). (p/c)
Step 6: Then write and complete the next sentence;
“My hypothesis was wrong/right”. Go to either 7a (wrong) or 7b
(right). (p/c)
Step 7a:
Hypothesis was wrong – Write and complete the following sentence; “My
hypothesis was wrong because my data says… (Complete this sentence after interpreting
your data and results), and my hypothesis said that…(Restate
your hypothesis here). (p/c)
Step 7b: Hypothesis was right -
Write and complete the following sentence; “My hypothesis was right because my
data says… (Complete this sentence after interpreting your data and results),
and my hypothesis said that…(Restate your hypothesis here). (p/c)
Step 8: Write and complete the following sentence;
“The science concept I learned while completing this lab is… (Interpret your
data and results and explain what your learned from completing the lab). (p/c)
Step 9: Have lab partner peer edit your conclusion
for spelling and grammar errors. Go to
step 11 if there are mistakes. Go to
step 12 if there are no mistakes. (p/c)
Step 10: Have your lab partner peer edit
your data and results for completeness and accuracy. Go to step 11 if there are mistakes. Go to step 12 if there are no mistakes. (p/c)
Step 11: Edit your spelling,
grammar, or data and results. (p/c)
Step 12: Staple conclusion paper to
last page of laboratory report. (p)
Step 13: Place your laboratory
report in your labs and experiments section of your science portfolio. (p)
